V I N T A G E // geometric smoky quartz set in 14k / modernist style / size 3.5

this is a true treasure. an absolute statement ring. the faceting leads to beautiful geometric lines of light passing through the stone

marked 14k and additionally tests positive for 14k. I would say the gold has a slight rose hue.

likely artisan made as there is some asymmetry consistent with something handmade. mainly the setting that holds the stone in place is not perfectly aligned and the casting of the ring band has some surface imperfections. I found several similar rings by the same artist listed elsewhere online -- they're all slightly different in how the quartz is set into the ring.

C O N D I T I O N

smoky quartz appears dark when not cast in light (see photo 1 & 2) and lighter chocolate brown when the light catches it. there are some minor surface imperfections to the stone, which makes sense since it sits high off the finger. most noticeably there's a ~0.5mm area where the surface is slightly rough near where the facets of the stone meet to form a point. there are a few other very tiny chips measuring less than 0.5mm.

the stone is held in place by a setting, but it appears it is additionally secured with jeweler's epoxy where the large pieces of gold lay flat against the stone — jewelers epoxy is industry standard for these styles and this is an original feature of the design that increases its structural integrity

the surface of the gold has normal wear (scratches, tiny dents) consistent with a vintage ring that was worn and loved and a part of the band has a color inconsistency from a previous sizing mark

it could use a good cleaning as a light patina has begun to form in the corners where the ring doesn't touch skin and there is some genuine vintage dirt built up in the corners of the ring's setting.
