this is one of the nicer late mid century fringe collar necklaces with spectacular engineering in and between each linkthis dates to the late 1960s, early 1970s and it's ready for many more decades of wear
it's finished with tiny ball bead details at the end of each panel, which feels like an indication of how much time and care was put into crafting this technical masterpiece. it's made in the style of designer pieces coming out of Europe in the 1960s, but it doesn't have hallmarks offering provenance other than its 585 hallmark hinting at a European origin story
is it technically double sided? hard to know—but it could easily be worn either way — technically the matte, brushed finish side is 'up,' and the shiny side is 'down,' but that's not a rule
is it so slinky and comfortable that it's easy to forget it's on and fall asleep wearing it? yes! that's a rare treat for a statement necklace

-the engineering that allows for the effortless, slinky movement is hidden inside and between the links, which is truly an engineering masterpiece.
-the links lay flat when on a flat surface
-the matte, brushed side of the panels hold onto time-earned patina more than the shiny side does
-the safety latch that ensures that the push-button clasp won't accidentally get pushed open is tight, so you might need a friend to help undo it when you're ready to take it off. it does the job of ensuring that this hefty gold doesn't escape during wear, so the extra effort to unhook the safety latch feels worth it, even if it maybe requires a friend's help
