sometimes there's a ring with stones that glow regardless of the lighting and this. is. that. ring. it has six single cut diamonds and a center opal, all of which absolutely glue and mesmerize regardless of the lighting situation.
this ring was expertly made and has been cared for over the years leaving a 'was it ever worn?' question hanging around it. the milgrain edges are crisp and clear. the setting and stones have very minimal surface wear.
it's a little hard to date this ring and tell its origin story, but it could be nearing antique. Best guess is that it dates to the 1940s, but was inspired by the 1920s and earlier. it's uncharacteristically sturdy for a diamond and opal cluster ring, which hints that it might have been born in the 1940s when hefty structural integrity was the name of the jewelry game.
*opals are a very porous, soft stone so they require a caretaker who will take them off before extended contact with water (dishwashing, etc), and they don’t want to be worn for activities like gardening or other manual labor. plenty of people are happy to take extra steps to protect opal rings, but you know yourself and your life and whether or not this ring would be a joy or a stress for you*

truly, 'was this ring ever worn?' is the question hanging around this spectacular piece. it has minor surface wear, but nothing that hints of a life of being worn regularly. instead, the wear patterns are more consistent with being stored and occasionally moved around over many decades.
there's a faint sizing area at the base of the band that looks like it was added before the hallmark, so very likely was the original sizing adjustment. there's a minor inconsistency/void at the edge of the band and some variation in hue in this area (see photos)
the oral is so full of fire that it's hard to take a photo of the surface texture, which has only minor surface wear, no chips or cracks
this is a vintage item and will show surface scratches, dents, dings, dulling, wear, patina, and signs of having been worn and loved
