this creature is full of wonder and design quirks. at first glance it looks like a beetle, but if we count the legs we might be convinced it's a fancy spider masquerading as a beetle. many of these mid century insects featured jade cabochons, but this one is in a lower karat (9k mis-marked at 385 for 375 gold), a faux or cultured pearl, and glass 'ruby' eyes
it was originally a brooch, but the mechanism had failed and it's now a pendant with a double bail to give it excellent movement when worn

C O N D I T I O N
in good reworked vintage condition
one of the eyes has some minor chips
-this is a quirky piece and has both expertly-crafted elements, and primitively crafted elements. the legs are expertly shaped, notched, and finished with tiny little feet, the solder seams are slightly more primitive
-the pearl is a bead and the hole is semi-visible under one of the prongs
-prongs are all snug around their 'stones'
-new jump ring bail is not perfectly round
-HEAVY, inconsistent time-earned patina
-inconsistent hue on the back of the spider where the pin's hardware was removed
this is a vintage item and will show surface scratches, dents, dings, dulling, wear, patina, and signs of having been worn and loved
