let's time travel together to the year 1882 using this ring as our portal. it's a portal to an era of incredible craftspeople and a time when a setting like this would typically feature an old cut diamond and be worn as an engagement ring, but this setting features a deep green cabochon. is it green turquoise? maybe! is it a wonderful dark green hard stone? yes!

this ring has enough wear to prove that it's truly old, but it's missing 100+ years of patina, which hints that it has been polished repeatedly or recently

the inscription inside the band is partially worn and partially lost to a previous sizing. 'Carl' and 'April 7th, 1882' are crisp and legible and there's another portion that's fading that starts with '&' and then probably has part of another name. very likely this was an anniversary or wedding ring

18k gold with a slightly rosy hue

measures just over size 5.25, but fits like a size 5.25 or slightly smaller because of the width of the band

band is just over 5.5mm at widest point and tapers to 2.3mm at the base of the band

stone measures 4.25mm across

buttercup setting is 7.6mm across

rises 6mm off the finger

weighs 3g

in excellent antique condition

the engraved details on the shoulders are unbelievably crisp and feature little triangles with stylized floral details carved in relief

the green stone has a little bit of wiggle in the setting. the prongs are all secure, but some of them have lost the very tips, which likely creates room for the wiggle of the stone

the band was sized previously, leaving the band slightly out of round, and there's a sizing area at the band of the band with a yellower hue and partial loss of the inside inscription

the green stone has minor surface wear with almost a waxy surface texture

this is an antique item and will show surface scratches, dents, dings, dulling, wear, patina, and signs of having been worn and loved
